What People Found Useful

RH

Richard Halstead

British expat, Bangkok (25 years)

I came to the half-day workshop with a carrier bag of loose papers I had been putting off dealing with for two years. Leaving with everything in labelled folders and knowing exactly where to find each type of document was a genuine relief. The facilitator never made me feel embarrassed about the state of things.

Malinee Nantakarn

Thai national, planning ahead at 58

The Orientation Programme suited me well. I found the pace comfortable and appreciated that questions were welcomed throughout. There was one session where the topic moved a little quickly for me, but I was able to follow up by email after and received a clear explanation. A sensible way to approach these matters before consulting a proper adviser.

Thomas Wren

Australian, retired engineer, Sathorn

Picked up the Personal Records Toolkit after seeing it mentioned in an expat forum. For ฿9,800 it is remarkably complete — the dividers cover categories I had not thought to separate out. My wife has been maintaining it herself since it arrived and says it is straightforward to use. No gimmicks, just a well-thought-out folder.

Pranee Srithong

Thai-German dual national, Bangkok

Holding pension documents in two countries made me feel quite overwhelmed about where to even start. The workshop helped me realise the problem was not the complexity of the documents themselves but the lack of a system for holding them. Three months on and everything is still in order — I add new documents to the right section the day they arrive.

Jean-Luc Moreau

French national, Sukhumvit area

The sessions were clear, the group was a good size — about eight people I think — and no one was in a hurry. I would have liked slightly more time on international fund statements specifically, but that is a fairly niche need. For general retirement document organisation in a Bangkok context, this is probably the most practical option I have come across.

Anchalee Chaiyawat

Thai national, managing family documents

I was initially unsure whether a workshop like this would be too basic or too complicated. It turned out to be well-pitched for someone like me who understands the general subject but had never sat down to create a proper filing system. The explainer cards in the toolkit are the part I still use regularly — very helpful when a new document type arrives.

Participant Journeys

From a Bag of Unsorted Papers to a Working File System

The Situation

A British participant living in Bangkok for over twenty years had accumulated pension-related correspondence from three former UK employers, a Thai social insurance record, and several years of fund statements. All of it was in a single A4 envelope with no particular order.

What Happened

Attended the Document Organisation Workshop. During the session, the facilitator introduced a category system covering employment pensions, government schemes, and investment-linked documents. Each category received a labelled section in the folder provided.

Outcome

Left the session with all documents sorted and labelled, and a clear sense of which categories still had gaps. Booked a meeting with a financial planner the following week and described the session as having made that conversation considerably more productive.

"I had been avoiding those papers for two years. The workshop was the push I needed, and the facilitator made it easy."

A Household System That Both Partners Could Use

The Situation

An Australian couple purchased the Personal Records Toolkit after one partner mentioned spending over an hour looking for a single pension statement. Both partners held accounts in Australia, and one also had a small UK pension. Documents were scattered across multiple files, drawers, and email accounts.

What Happened

Used the toolkit's folder structure to consolidate all physical documents within a single afternoon. The laminated explainer cards were used as a reference when the couple were uncertain how to categorise some older correspondence from a superannuation fund.

Outcome

Both partners now know where every document is and follow the annual review checklist each January. The husband described the explainer cards as particularly useful for distinguishing between different types of fund correspondence.

"It's a physical folder — not an app — and that suits us. We both understand the system, which was the point."

Building Background Understanding Before Seeking Professional Advice

The Situation

A Thai-German national in her mid-fifties wanted to understand how her various pension-related documents fitted together before making any decisions. Previous conversations with professionals had felt confusing because she was unclear on basic terminology and document types.

What Happened

Completed the four-session Information & Orientation Programme. Sessions covered Thai social insurance documentation, employer-linked pension schemes, and internationally-issued fund statements, with open Q&A throughout. No individual advice was given.

Outcome

Returned to a financial adviser two months after completing the programme. The participant described the subsequent conversation as the first time she had felt genuinely on top of the subject. She was able to ask specific questions rather than relying on the adviser to explain fundamental terms.

"After the programme I felt able to have a real conversation with my adviser rather than just nodding along. That was exactly what I needed."
